Sami Matar

Working at Editec has been both challenging and rewarding. Joining our organisation with an open and resilient mind would ultimately reap amazing benefits for individuals who are willing to adapt to their environment and be a constantly hungry learner. My motto is that there is no failure in life – we either accomplish what we seek or we learn from our mistakes in order to achieve our targets.

When I first joined Editec, I was sceptical and had serious doubts since Editec’s Operations are located in developing economies and I was venturing into a whole new industry – The Gaming Industry. Nonetheless, I decided to courageously take the opportunity and I started my adventurous journey with Editec on the 18 April 2014.

After 5 years as a valuable team member of Editec, I can proudly confirm that taking this step has been fruitful as it enabled me to grow on both a personal and professional level. Editec is an organisation that identifies talent and rewards dedication and loyalty. Being promoted twice and moving from being Commercial Executive to Commercial Manager, then to my current role as Operations Manager have brought me valuable experiences and interpersonal skills.

My initial studies were in business management, and my professional background before joining Editec was in advertising and marketing. I used to be an Account Manager for an advertising agency in Lebanon, where I was stuck in the same dead-end role for several years. However, since I have joined Editec, I have been enjoying the diverse daily challenges our job constantly offers.

Career opportunities at Editec are immense. Advancement opportunities are given based on merit and accomplishments. Working with passion, learning constantly, and grasping innovative concepts and processes ultimately develop a person’s abilities and skills, especially when working within a mature and friendly organizational culture like Editec.

Furthermore, the experience of adapting to a new culture in an emerging economy often brings in a fresh perspective that can ultimately evolve our mind towards more resilience, creativity in problem solving, and flexibility to adapt to different management styles. I was lucky enough to gain an amazing life experience and collect beautiful memories throughout my career with Editec since I have already moved between 4 lovely African cultures. I am now based in Dar es Salaam – Tanzania, which is a booming African city with a lot to offer.

Finally, my best satisfaction at work is developing and empowering the locals to become well equipped with strong willingness to learn and become efficient employees and effective managers. During my past 5 years at Editec, I have identified several talents and thankfully I have managed to develop people’s skills, their abilities and know-how. These metamorphoses offer me a deep sense of satisfaction and accomplishment. Building up projects and increasing sales figures as well enhance my confidence level and allow me to persistently work on my problem-solving abilities and management capabilities – the future is yet to show what I can further achieve at Editec since in our organisation SKY IS THE LIMIT!

I spent the last 14 years of my professional career as a Managing Director, developing business activities in African Markets on behalf of European Companies and reached senior leadership roles. I have extensive experience in the development of Business activities in West and Central Africa with a proven capability of managing people, integrating systems, bringing new products, optimising value chains, analysing different markets and industries, and more broadly in driving growth through emerging markets, focusing mainly on the Gaming Industry.

My knowledge, skills and abilities, are general management, leadership, business development, brand strategy, sales strategy, marketing and full P&L responsibility. My track record demonstrates that I build high-performance teams, develop next-generation leaders, and effectively manage cross-functional departments throughout Finance, Operations, Marketing and Sales and obviously I am fully aware of the processes for reporting directly into a large multi-national.

I am most proud of having taken the helm of companies in difficulty for which I designed and executed strategies that turned them into successful subsidiaries generating two to three digits growth in some cases.

In 2016, I completed an Executive MBA at HEC Paris (Ranked by Financial Times as top 3) with the aim to build on my 10+ years of day-to-day operational experience by adding the ability to be a more strategic versatile leader with strong interpersonal skills who is capable of transcending both geographic regions and industry segments.

In 2017, I joined Editec UK, convinced by the CEO, Franck Attal, with who I share the same values, committed to sustainable development in African Markets. Six months later, I had the chance to be appointed at the Head of Operations in Cameroon, which is one of the fast-growing African markets with a huge potential for responsible gaming activities. This represents about 3000 outlets across the territory, combining Gaming Centres, Mini-Shops and Agents.

2018 was such a prolific year with the successful launch of our new online platform and a variety of new lottery & Sports betting products, specially customised for the Cameroonian market. At Editec, we must be all very proud of our achievements and contribution to the economic development of the African Continent.

Working on the development of such a Business is a great opportunity, that is even more true since the global Editec Team is composed of genuine talented professionals, which allows constant innovation to remain at the cutting edge.

Elizabeth Ofoaiye

I am a French Law Graduate from The University of Westminster with 4 years’ experience in hospitably working at both Arsenal FC and Chelsea FC, as well as AllBright Women’s club. Studying Law with French law allowed me to develop my skills in the French language and these skills were easily transferrable when transitioning into my new role here at Editec as a French speaking customer service representative

I have recently passed my probation and I am over the moon! I have integrated with my team very well and I felt very welcome when I joined. I am the missing piece of the puzzle.

From my induction day until now, I have learnt a lot about the Company in terms of customer service but also in other areas of the Company such as Design/Sports betting and Retail. We have a few events which has helped me to integrate with the company. I am very excited about the future.

Working in Editec is a new journey that I am excited to embark on!

I have really enjoyed my experience at Editec so far. It’s the people that make Editec special, promoting a happy working environment. The culture of the business enables me to be creative and work on the areas that I feel most passionate about. I am excited about my future position and the adventure that is yet to unfold.

Throughout the year, I have seen the fruits of my benefits implementation promoting a cultural change within the Company in a positive manner. The HR team have already successfully implemented strategies within a two-year period to make our staff happy and we don’t stop there…With much more to come, we are working tremendously hard to put in place training and developmental opportunities plus other perks to show our Employees how much we do value what they do. It’s true, the heart of our Company is our People.

I immediately saw EDITEC as an exciting career opportunity after I relocated to Malta and heard about growth plans for online.

I was also surprised at the massive established EDITEC footprint in small-population African countries like Guinea, Mali and Congo. With predictions of 80% of the 800 million people in Sub-Saharan Africa having a mobile device by 2020 and the continued popularity of iGaming globally, I see some exciting possibilities opening up even in countries where competition is already booming.

Although I grew up in Africa where I loved Indian Ocean beach moments in my childhood, I’ve lived and worked in London and the USA for eight years when I completed my Commerce degree in Informatics, Marketing and HR. I then returned to my childhood roots in Africa where I worked for six years growing an iGaming brand out of South Africa. The industry is always evolving and growing, and the dynamic opportunities ties in with my personality of always wanting to learn.

When I’m not working, I love travelling – so sunny Malta is a perfect base for exploring many different countries. As EDITEC grows even further, I look forward to playing a part in building a reputable and personally-rewarding company culture.
